User Interface

The application design is responsive and all modern mobile browsers are supported. By clicking the various icons, panels will open from the side of the screen, which can be closed by swiping or pushing on the map again.

Navigation

The map extent can easily be changed by pushing down and draging the map on the screen.

The map zoom level is controlled by pinch-zoom gestures with two fingers (e.g. thumb and index finger). Moving the fingers towards each other on the map screen will cause the map to zoom out. Moving the fingers away from each other on the map screen will cause the map to zoom in.

GPS / Tracking

GPS tracking is only possible if the device has a GPS receiver. To enable GPS tracking, first activate the device's GPS receiver. Next, click the Geolocation icon in the top row of the screen. Once the GPS has acquired an accurate position, the user can perform a location-based query. The GPS tracking information can be viewed in the GPS Information panel on the left.

Map Layers

The map layers provide additional demarcation information that can be displayed on the map. The base map can also be changed from the drop-down list.

Data Categories

The data categories is based on spatial information available at the Department of Agriculture. Each category represents a collection of agricultural and natural resources data sets. The data is mostly limited to the boundaries of the Western Cape province.

To include a category in a map query, tick the checkbox and run the query (location-based or click event). The result for the layer will be displayed in the Results panel on the left of the screen.

Results

The Results panel displays information returned from a map query. Demarcation information (municipal and cadastral) is returned on every query, but only the information for data categories that are ticked will be returned on each query. The information in the Results panel is group in expandable sections.

The resulting layer can also be displayed on the map. To show the selected layer, click the View Layer checkbox below the resulting layer information.

Search

The search tool allows the user to search for an address or point of interest, SG erven and SG farm portions. Search results are limited to the Western Cape province.

Settings

The Position Lock setting will ensure that the device location is always in the center of the map.

By default North is up in the map. The Map Rotation setting allows for the map to point in the direction that the device is moving.

The Results Layer switch is used to turn the resulting layer display on or off.
